The Modern Noah’s Ark

This comes to us by way of Things Magazine. A devout 47-year-old Dutchman named Johan Huibers is building a 1/5-scale working replica of Noah’s Ark that he plans to fill with farm animals and sail through the interior waters of the Netherlands beginning this September. The ship is constructed of American cedar and Norwegian pine — not gopher wood. Total cost: $1.2 million. The full story at the BBC. And much more on Noah’s Ark at Things Magazine, including a link to a video tour of the ark from Dutch TV.
Huibers’ vision notably does not accord with Father Kircher’s rectilinear vision of the ark, as illustrated in his 1675 book Arca Noë.
